Russia and Ukraine Swap Prisoners After US-Led Talks, While Peace Remains Elusive

US-brokered peace talks resulted in a rare exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine. These talks took place in Abu Dhabi. Both parties have exchanged 157 individuals each, marking the very first exchange in the last four months. This exchange is considered as a crucial move, although broader peace talks could  not progress in the  expected way.

The discussions remain quite challenging because it was focussed mainly on the demand of Russia to give up more land in Ukraine, while Ukraine emphasising on security guarantees to avoid future airstrikes by Russia.

Despite discussions, Russia continuously targets East Ukraine and its energy infrastructure, which is increasing pressure on negotiators to reach results.
